Filter Inspections and Rehabilitation

EE&T has conducted filter assessments and performance evaluations at water treatment plants ranging in size from less than 1 MGD to over 200 MGD.  These assessments have been performed to diagnose existing filtration problems, as well as to optimize and document filter performance.

Typical services performed during filter assessments include review of performance data; core sampling of filter beds to verify media stratification, to determine solids removal during backwash, and to perform sieve analyses of the media; and inspection of the under drain.  In addition, EE&T personnel will determine bed expansion during backwashing and, if appropriate, excavate media to inspect filter bottoms.  In instances where filter configuration allowed for access inside the under drain, EE&T has used camera inspections to further assess filter performance.

During filter assessments, EE&T also works with the plant’s maintenance and operations personnel to review recent maintenance and operations activities, as well as the plant’s standard operation procedures.  EE&T is experienced in providing operator training to assist in proper filter operation and maintenance.
